At the third session of the tenth Chinese People's Political Consultative
Conference, General Shao Hua (wife of Mao Zedong's son Anqing), major
general of the Chinese Academy of Military Science and chairman of the
China Photographers Association put forward "Overture on Confirming
Chinese National Flower" and proposed confirmation of the peony as
