Chinanews, Beijing, May 26 - Huang Shuhe, vice chairman of the
State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State
Council, said on May 25 that according to the current pattern of energy
consumption, China's crude oil deficiency will reach 250 to 270 million
tons by the year 2020, causing much severer pressure on energy and
environment.
The "High-Profile Forum on China Energy Strategy" of the 9th China
Beijing International High-tech Expo was opened in Beijing on May 25. At
the opening ceremony, Huang made an estimation of China's future energy
consumption, saying that by the year 2020, China's demand for primary
energy sources will exceed 3.2 billion tons of standard coal, and its
energy consumption will increase 2.5 times compared with that of the year
2000.
Huang pointed out that under the new circumstance when energy becomes a
bottleneck of the Chinese economy, energy contradiction becomes
increasingly prominent, and the war for energy becomes severer,
centrally-owned enterprises should bring into fullplay their important
role in ensuring energy production, promoting sustainable energy
development, safeguarding energy security, and facilitating energy
conservation and multipurpose use.
